Since I can't be bothered to type out all my thoughts again, I'll just copy+paste what I wrote on the other forum I commented on about this:

I must admit it sounds promising, although I'm semi reluctant to speculate whether it will actually turn out any good or not...

Personally I think I'd prefer to see a story set in the universe that was not centred on Shepherd, simply because I very much doubt that the Shepherd in the film would be anything like the Shepherd I played in the games, and so what's the point in using the character if most of the people who will go to watch it who played the game can't necessarily relate to it?

I suppose if they did use Shepherd, which it wouldn't hugely surprise me if they did, it would most likely be John Shepherd, default characteristics etc. following the paragon path. Unless of course they did the whole thing in CGI where every person watching it could customise Shepherd to look precisely how they want, and follow the set of morals they think best, with the skill set and back story decided at the start of the film and then casually referred to at strategic points through the rest of the movie.

Honestly, I think it has the potential to be brilliant, but I think it could be too easy to completely screw it up and ruin the whole thing for everyone...It would, however, be unbelievably awesome if Jack were to do the score for it and could possibly redeem any failure it suffered.

I'm just now getting around to playing Mass Effect and it has drawn me in more than most games I have played recently. I have to second what Myrph said though, a movie based around Shepherd would be kinda tough to do. Would he be a Paragon or Renegade? Or somewhere in between (a "paragade")?

I remember seeing that halo paintball on youtube! It was pretty cool. Lazer tag doesen't hurt as much though. :p
