A few days ago I went with a buddy of mine to go see Scott Pilgrim; boy was I impressed! I did not think that it would be something that I would care for (being that I am not a huge fan of Michael Sara) but it turned out to be a pretty fun movie. There was an obvious video game influence to it and it started off with some Mario and Zelda music!!

Did anyone see this and what were your thoughts?

I haven't watched it yet, and since it doesn't premiere over here until next week, it might be some time before I do! That being said, however, I did read the graphic novels on which the movie is based and absolutely loved it! I'm quite interested to find out how the end differs from the books though, considering the sixth (and final) book hadn't been written at the time they were filming the movie!

Just a quick note, because I'm sure there are quite a few people on the forums who haven't seen it yet, I'd kindly ask anyone who has not to post any spoilers regarding what happens in the film.

I greatly enjoyed it, although I have not read the graphic novels, so it was basically my first time entering the realm of Scott Pilgrim.

In general, I really loved all of the references to the games out there, and I couldn't stop chuckling when one would pop up (and I would recognize it). The movie's over the top because of it, but I enjoyed the way it was presented: there's no pretense that there's something deeper in the story. It's just there.

Gotta say though, towards the end, they started squeezing a couple of scenes too close together; they could've used a bit more character development. But that's what the graphic novel is for, huh? I mean, 108 minutes isn't that long.

I believe there are supposed to be a couple of Cartoon Network shorts to accompany the film, acting as prequels covering some of the character development from the graphic novels which wasn't included in the movie.
Also depending on how close to the end you mean, (specifically in the lead up to the battle with Gideon) its possible that it felt a bit strange because, as I said earlier, the ending of the movie was created for the movie because the final book hadn't been written at that point so they had to make something up for it. Its possible that it would've felt slightly less rushed if they'd had a book to work on, although I must admit having read the final book, parts of it do feel a little rushed there as well, so maybe not!

I really enjoyed it. It's kind of a unique film in that I've never seen anything like it before. It's like it answers the question "What if life were like a big video game?" I thought the dialogue was hilarious, especially the numerous gaming references. Those would be lost on the non-gaming crowd of course, but there was a lot of non-gaming humor as well. The fights and the special effects were what I enjoyed the most though. Very well done.

I agree. It's the only movie this year that I've gone to see twice.
