I think the series should've ended with KH2, though I'm not entirely rejecting a 3rd, but this is overkill..
And through that interview, he said that its not bout Sora anymore so I'm assuming it may also be a spin-off instead of a sequel, which is fine because I'd like to see a direct sequel on current gen graphics..

How can it be overkill? The end of KH2 did leave you a hint that something was going down. Not to mention some other games have unfinished business which needs to be resolved.

I don't think that KH3D is supposed to be the actual KH3. Reading some info about it (of which there is still only a little bit), it seems to be another side-story type thing like the other portable games (although they were pretty important too). For one thing, the characters look like they do in KH1, even though I guess they might not actually be the same exact characters from the game.
I suppose the main thing here is that KH3D doesn't look like it would be the same game that the endings of Coded and Birth by Sleep set up for. Also, I'd think that the next numbered installment would be on a non-portable console. I could be wrong, though.

And yeah, the ending of KH2 is sort of a cliffhanger that leaves a lot of things unexplained. There are still a lot of awesome things that Square-Enix (and Disney) can do with Kingdom Hearts both in terms of gameplay and plot, so it's not overkill yet.

Its overkill coz IF its true that its the 3rd KH, its on the 3DS instead of on a console..
I agree with some people that a sequel should be made on a console, unless it was started on a handheld..
Like The 3rd Birthday for example, I think they should make it on the PS3 instead of the PSP..

Why? What's with this anti-handheld snobbery all of a sudden?

I don't know why this decision may or may not have been made (it does seem rather speculative at the moment). Maybe they figured they can't really justify the expense of a major home-console development with the previous game's sales in mind. Or maybe Nintendo just offered them loads of money. But whatever the case, surely its being a decent game is vastly more important than the size and portability of the screen you play it on. There's no reason it can't be good on 3DS.

Don't get me wrong, I'm getting the 3DS when it comes out coz of lots of other reasons (Megaman Legends 3, Golden Sun, MGS 3D, etc)..

Oh, I thought you were referring to the series itself, my bad. I'm curious to see which parts of the game will actually be in 3D.
