Default Japan Disaster and the Gaming World

I am really nervous as to how this is going to affect the gaming industry. I mean, I know there are obviously more important topics to worry about, but it's because of those topics that makes me concerned. This will certainly delay any current games in the making that's Japan related, but then how long will it be?

It is worth noting that such companies are donating money for the cause. If anyone is interested someone is selling their red DS with signed autographs; one of them is from Martin Leung!

Heck, it was even said that creator of Pokemon was dead, but that turned out to be false when he posted on Facebook.

I think that out of respect, we shouldn't be speculating this right now.

Oh, I don't mean to disrespect anyone, I was just trying to bring up talk about how this could effect the industry; being since this is a game site. Again, I'm sorry I've upset anyone.

I know and I get it, but is just that with so many people dead and so many things to fix, like a nuclear power plant, speaking on video games delay sounds a bit insensible, even if not meant that way. It's like someone suffering an accident and going to the hospital and having people speculating when will he/she have is/her work done.

It's not like those actually suffering are being ignored. For every person worried about the industry, there are many, MANY more worried about the hurt & homeless...

That does not mean we shouldn't have them in consideration, and it isn't exclusive one from the other.
What I am saying is that we should give it some time.

That is true, but it's also not horrible to be worried about certain industries. I don't care about product delays because there are certainly far more important things that need to be done for and by the people of Japan (rescuing and helping survivors, rebuilding, solving the major energy problem/s, etc). However, I also believe that the sooner the industries are ready to get back to work, the better it will be for everybody in Japan who would benefit from a properly working economy.

I am astounded by the amazing resilience and patience of the people in Japan, and I believe that they have the ability to get through such a terrible disaster as this one. In the meantime, we can continue to give any support we can (and I suppose that includes buying their products).

Here's a nice little article though, about how sometimes the "little" things (specifically video games in this article) that seem unimportant in times of crisis really can have some importance to the people going through these times:

Well, I remember that video games have been a great form of distraction for me at other bad times when I just couldn't watch the news anymore. I suppose that things such as that (a return to some sort of familiarity or a form of escapism) really do help at times when they're accessible.

It would be rather irresponsible to bring the power-guzzling games industry back up to full operation when the nation - and in particular quake- and tsunami-stricken areas - is suffering from serious power shortages.

Exactly, and those are definitely the first and foremost issues that the country needs to work through right now. Hopefully they will be able to get the nuclear situation and other energy problems under control, because one of the last things the country needs right now is a major nuclear emergency. It's still a bit difficult to tell exactly how much of a widespread problem it can cause, though, because everybody seems to have different information.

Incidentally, anyone in the mood to feel absolute despair for the situation in Fukushima should watch this depressing documentary from the early 90s by the excellent Adam Curtis (downloadable here if the iPlayer doesn't like you bloomin' foreigners).
